The Upper Flume Trail
The Upper Flume Trail is a Level Three hike. It has moderate inclines and is suitable for most hikers. It's an easy one-hour walk, mostly in the shade under the cedars, amongst moss and ferns, sometimes alongside the creek where it trickles over rocks and splashes over little mini waterfalls. The Lower Flume follows the creek all the way to the Adams River, and then follows the river for a short distance. Listen to the description... How to get there: On Highway #1 in British Columbia halfway between the towns of Sorrento and Chase, approximately 8km from each, and a few meters from the Squilax General Store Hostel with it's funky flower umbrellas, there’s a sign that marks the exit to the Roderick-Haig Brown Provincial Park. Take the exit and stay on the right-hand side of the road to take the Squilax–Anglemont Road. This road crosses over the river and curves around to the other side of the lake. Follow this road for approximately 4km, then turn left at the sign that points to Adams Lake onto Holdings Road. After 4kms on Holdings Road you'll pass Loakin Bear Creek Road — don't turn here, it's just a landmark — but drive 1km further and then turn left at a small obscure sign that marks the entrance to the Upper Flume parking lot. If you miss the sign and find yourself crossing the bridge over Hiuihill (Bear) Creek, it means you've gone too far! Turn around! The Lower Flume Trailhead starts just before you cross the bridge while the Upper Flume Trailhead starts about 50 meters back before the bridge, on the other side of the road. Happy hiking!
