Sorrento Memorial Hall Association

The Sorrento Memorial Hall is situated in the town of Sorrento, the "Heart of the Shuswap." It is just off the Trans Canada Highway and a short distance from the Shuswap Lake. The hall is one of the largest halls in the South Shuswap area. The original hall was located too close to the new Trans Canada Highway and had to be torn down and the present hall was built with the help of community volunteers. It continues to be operated by a few volunteers who make up the Board.

Facilities

The main hall can accommodate 200 people in a theatre setting or 150 people for dinners and dances. The hall is equipped with a stage, stage curtains, stage lighting and P.A. system. There is a separate meeting room with bar facilities and gas heater. The fully equipped, approved and certified kitchen has a large cooler, two stoves, microwave, dish sterilizer, cooking utensils and dishes and cutlery for 150 people. Large tables and chairs are available for events held in the main hall. There is a large parking lot on site as well as a handicap ramp for easy access.

The hall is used for numerous events through out the year. The Board has fund raisers such as Garage & Crafts Sales, Dances and Performances. The Lions host Halloween parties for the young, hold Remembrance Day Services, Senior Christmas Parties, and Fathers' Day Breakfasts. The spring and summer months bring an auction, the annual Shuswap Lake Art Festival, the Woodworkers Show & Sale, the High Country Pottery Sale along with reunions, dances, banquets and meetings. The hall is suitable for weddings and gatherings of all sorts.

The Sorrento Memorial Hall can be rented for a full day, half day, a few days, a week or on an hourly basis. The rates are:

Hall rental, with liquor — $225
Hall rental, without liquor — $200
Main Hall, Hourly — $25/hr
Seminar Room — $20/hr
PA System — $35
Kitchen (includes use of dishes & appliances) — $50

The Hall is within walking distance of the town and Shuswap Lake. There are two motels, one across the road from the Hall, two resorts situated on the lake, and camping facilities close by. Sorrento has four restaurants, two grocery stores, a quaint coffee shop, and an exciting antique shop. The area has many interesting places to visit and has a host of activities for the outdoor enthusiast.
