The Olympic Torch Relay

Chase a Route Community

JANUARY 27, 2010

The Event

Our intent is to make the passing of the torch through our community as memorable as possible. It will only be here for very short period of time but we will be making the most of it.

Our celebration and awareness program will be “happening” for several weeks; ending January 27th; our BIG day.

In early January we created a giant scroll on individual “scroll” design paper. Volunteers from the Chase Spirit of BC Committee is visiting each classroom in Chase and each student will be given a page to draw, write a poem or story about the what the Olympics means to them. They will also add their best wishes to all our athletes. We will also take the scroll to the schools of the surrounding communities of Adam’s Lake Indian Band and Neskonlith Indian Band. The pages will be collected and then laminated.

The scroll pages will also be made available to all members of the community; groups, seniors’ facilities, and volunteers will man tables at our post office inviting anyone and everyone to add their wishes and thoughts.

We have also created 300 torch replicas that will be painted white and distributed to the elementary students to decorate with personalized ideas of what the Olympics means to them. The students will line the route and wave their replica torches in support of the official runners.

On January 27th we have planned events for the schools, community hall and along the route.

Entertainment

On January 27th, 2010, 0ur celebration will be family fun for everyone.

Along the route – Shuswap Ave from one end to the other

We will also have these refreshments available along the route. (6 outlets) In front of Chase Primary, Shuswap Grocery, Craig’s Bakery, Chase Chamber and Home Hardware and inside the Community Hall.

We have commissioned our Citizens on Patrol to help with crowd control.
