The Olympic Torch Relay

DATE: Wednesday, JAN 27,2010
TIME: 2:00 pm

2010 Torch Runner in Sorrento, local business owner Dave Warsing of Frankie's Pizza, poses with local firefighters, Mike Crocker and Scott Hunt.

Thanks Sorrento for showing your great spirit! What a great day! A terrific crowd turned out under beautiful sunny skies to cheer the Olympic Torch on it’s journey through Sorrento!

See the photos here!

The Sorrento Torch Relay Committee would like to thank everyone for their great response to the relay. We approached many businesses and individuals and you all stepped up to the plate and helped out! Thanks also to all the people who came out to cheer the torch bearers on! What great community and Canadian support and pride!

Thank-you to River of Life Church, Notch Hill Community Assoc, and Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union for operating the hot chocolate stations.

Thank-you to the Shuswap Volunteer Fire Dept. and their community volunteers for looking after parking and traffic.

Thank-you to the many businesses who willingly put up our posters and handed out information slips.

A big thank-you to Norm Sargent from Van Houtte Coffee for donating hot chocolate and to Sorrento Hardware, Nature’s Bounty and Loonie on the Lake Dollar Store for getting us a great deal on supplies.

Thank-you to George Abbott’s office for the Olympic pins to hand out.

Thank-you to Don Mitchell for being the event photographer and to Bruce Chalmers at St. Mary’s Church for ringing the church bells!

Thank-you to the many, many ladies who baked cookies for the luncheon and hot chocolate stations – Very yummy! These include members of the OAPO, St. Mary’s Guild, Women’s Institute, Curves, Crown Jewels, Sorrento Place, Notch Hill Community Association, Sorrento Community Association as well as many other individuals too numerous to mention.

Thank-you to the Sorrento Lion’s Club volunteers for helping wherever we needed them.

Thank-you to Robyn Cyr from the CSRD for working with us on this and to Sorrento Elementary School for hosting the community luncheon and entertainment made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

The problem with listing individual thank-you’s is the risk of missing someone – hopefully this didn’t happen but if so I apologize, it certainly wasn’t intentional and everyone’s help was greatly appreciated!
