The Shuswap Trail
There’s a trail for you in the Shuswap. In this magnificent region of mountains, lakes, rivers and trees there’s a little epic awaiting you — walkers, hikers and trail runners, ramblers, cyclists, equestrians, long distance cross-country mountain bikers, and wind-in-your-hair freeriders.
If you're looking for a trail with a variety of trail lengths to choose from, with magnificent vistas, be sure to check out the new Balmoral Bluffs trail in Blind Bay. A short stroll through the forest and up to the first bench brings hikers and mountain bikers to fine views over the surrounding community of Blind Bay. For the more vigorously inclined, the trail continues to climb higher along the Blind Bay bluffs finding continuously dramatic viewpoints along the 7-kilometre trek to the final summit at Blind Bay lookout.
For some of you, the lure may be the flowing mountain bike paths above South Canoe in Salmon Arm, for others a gentle equestrian ride along the shores of Skimikin Lake. Perhaps you relish the excitement of watching paddlers shoot the gorge along the Adams River trails, while others seek the beauty of the historic Flume Trails or the cool mists of Margaret Falls on a hot day.
Wherever you are in the Shuswap, there's a place nearby where you can park your vehicle and discover the surrounding landscape in new and intimate ways – by foot, bicycle, horse, ski, snowshoe, and paddle.
The Shuswap Trail is not a new vision. The Shuswap First Nations established a network of trails throughout the region that have been used for thousands of years. As you step out on the trails, acknowledge the first people of this place and their ancestors, and know that every step along the trail can bring you closer to the land around you.
But watch out – you may encounter one of the many volunteer trail days or bump into the Trail Alliance out with their summer trail crews. And there’s always an extra Pulaski on hand to give to those with a little time. Together, volunteers and trail crews have been learning new techniques in sustainable trail design and creating new connections between the region’s communities.
